Though day to day commercial and business matters naturally preoccupy our thinking, it is also very useful to reflect upon some of the difficult, complex analyses and assessments which states face today in geopolitics, strategic defence and, at the same time, the pursuit of peace and harmony. To help us understand some of the challenges of thinking and acting strategically, our Guest of Honour is uniquely well placed. General Shirreff is a Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath; Commander of the Order of the British Empire; and recipient of the Queen's Commendation for Valuable Service.
